Foil friday

Welcome to the home of Windfoil New Zealand.  In 2017 a small group of keen windsurfers took up windfoiling - their friends tried and they too became addicted to the feeling of flying across the water - a little bit of racing started at the Wakatere Boating Club and from this small fleet flying around, the New Zealand Windfoil Racing series was created, it's grown from event to event, with 50 competitors at the first New Zealand Windfoiling Championships at the Manly Sailing Club in 2019. It's not all about serious racing here - enjoy our links from learn to windfoil, club coaching, club racing, fun days and where to buy. We will add more content as we continue to grow.

Windsurfing has evolved - its time inspire the next generation of windsurfers in New Zealand.

Need a sail number please email us

In June 2020 the Windfoil NZ committee voted to adapt our own sail number registration system.   Most of you will have been contacted and issued with a new sail number and have been informed of the new disk numbering system.

When you join Windfoil NZ you can choose a sail number or allocated one. If you are racing with us you are required to display your name and sail number.  We have made it easy for you to get these printed as well - go to our web shop.

In 2020 the world changed the way it did things, with COVID 19 sweeping the globe we were forced in to lockdown, we worked from home where we could, we changed how we worked.  ZOOM helped us to that point and now we offer online coaching Webinars, Aaron Mcintosh and JP Tobin hosted the first session and 29 people tuned in to hear what these 2 masters of the sport could tell them.  These sessions will be once a month during winter.  Watch this space for more info.

It's a real thing #foilfriday at Lake Pupuke is all about that end of the week foiling with ya mates, it free sailing with some very informal racing - whether you are a racer or free foiler, get down for an evening foiling session, check out the gear and get some tips and tricks from some of the top guys.  Fun is the name of the game and a beer and pizza to top it off.  What a way to start the weekend.  Bring a friend and maybe have a go with the Mad Loop guys on hand to get you out there. Check the Calendar for the next #foilfriday

All sports are born at club level and Wakatere Boating Club with Gary Hill and Ian Young have taken charge as the first NZL Windfoiling fleet. Foilers as young as 12 are out on the water racing and enjoying what is Windfoiling.  Sunday morning coaching on club equipment along with club racing in the afternoon is growing all the time.

Manly Sailing Club the host of the 2019 New Zealand Windfoil Championships now has windsurf coaching and training happening in association with the Russell Coutts Sailing Foundation  - a keen group of windfoilers at the club pushing this program along with windfoiling being added to the program soon, watch this space for more information.
